November 29, 2022 by David Norman

New Day Rising is almost here! Pre-orders open December 9th and the full remastered digital release is December 23rd! This thing sounds absolutely massive. Co-released with Protagonist (U.S.) and Moment Of Collapse (Europe).

Massa Nera has a full album review by Distorted Sound, check it out here!

Another Massa Nera album review by Borderline Fuckup, check it out here!

Piri Reis’ ‘Ritma’ was reviewed by Horns Up, check it out here!

Lower Automation’s ‘Strobe Light Shadow Play’ was reviewed by Metal Division Magazine!

Another Lower Automation review of their new album from The Razor’s Edge, check it out here!

Massa Nera was also played on the CFRU radio station in Guelph…my old university! Holy shit! Here’s an mp3 link.

And CanaDave spoke with Rich from The Sawtooth Grin which is embedded below with a full post link with additional links here. Definitely one very specific/ZBR relevant bit of news in there, see if you can catch it.

Blind Girls’ first full length ‘Residue’ was the topic of the most recent Out Past the Rings. Two tapes remain and that’s it! A classic!

Works was again on the the CHRW CHIN music radio with the song “Action Vale”. 12”s from Tomb Tree still available! Features members of Girl Arm and can be accessed in full by clicking on this text.

The November 25th Operation X-Ray played Lower Automation, Massa Nera, and Keratin…and a ton of other good stuff!

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: KILLING MUSIC / DEADGUY = Rich from Sawtooth Grin recommended this documentary to me and I smashed it out in one night. Awesome watch. Scab Deadguy forever! There’s no embed link so just click here to make it start :)

2022 - 11 - 25 /// Keratin premiere

November 25, 2022 by David Norman

Keratin just premiered their final single from the forthcoming ‘Only Eye’ EP on Tomb Tree. 84 release into the wild on December 5th. Truly incredible screamo from Australia! Here’s a pic of one of the /20 with alternate black cover. Click on this text for the full premiere link.

I just received the Infall tapes yesterday after a lengthy delay at customs (they were due here a week ago) and once I swirl the b-sides of 5 of them these will be ready to go aka I’ll ship the US store it’s copies and all Canada/International sales on Monday.

Victor Shores is officially out, making it the predecessor to the above Keratin EP. This album is very different but equally amazing. Super catchy hard emo punk from this Minnesota three-piece. Truly infectious stuff that isn’t repetative or boring in the slightest, and those vocals are just awesome. Tapes ship early December.

Works was on the the CHRW CHIN music radio with the song “The Bend”. 12”s from Tomb Tree still available! Features members of Girl Arm and can be accessed in full by clicking on this text.

Lower Automation came out the other day and pretty much fried everyone’s brain. These twelve tracks have infinite repeat listens because literally so much is happening. Absolutely fantastic stuff and contender for best of 2022 for sure!

Speaking of Lower Automation’s ‘Strobe Light Shadow Play’, here’s a review from Distorted Sound Mag!

Thoughts Words Action did a nice piece on Massa Nera and their newest video for “Adrift”, and some words about the album. Click here for the full post!

Operation X-Ray played Eyelet, Piri Reis, Infall, and Holly Caught A Contact High on the most recent episode. A new episode airs this Friday November 25th!

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: UNDER THE PIER = This quartet recently came out with a killer The God Awful Truth split and it’s a righteous, violent, beast.

2022 - 11 - 03 /// Holly Caught A Contact High tomorrow!

November 03, 2022 by David Norman

You better be quick tomorrow if you’re interested in one of these Holly Caught A Contact High releasing on Tomb Tree at 9am PST / 11am CST / 12pm EST. The band has 25 copies and we have 25 copies, only 10 of each variant (pictured on the right) and 5 of the halfsies (pictured on the top). Ridiculously awesome mathcore/grind from a member of Colacon! Further surprise going down tomorrow after the drop!!!

Keratin announced their first release, also on Tomb Tree, today with a debut single “Survive snake” from the 5-song EP ‘Only Eyes” that releases in mid-December. Gorgeous yet heavy, it’s like Swedish night combined with Australian heat…or Suis La Lune/Nionde Plagan mixed with Gil Cerrone. Whatever’s easiest to digest! Thanks for the premiere Miss The Stars. Click on this link for the full post/premiere.

Finishing off the Tomb Tree news is the Works 12”LP reminder that released on November 1st. Stellar stuff for those that like bassy grooves and disjointed/mathy guitars.

Next on the Best Of (((((OPENmind/SATURATEDbrain))))) Podcast we’ve got Josh Jakubowski from Neil Perry, The Now, Joshua Fit For Battle, Hot Cross, etc. talking about what the hell was going on during the “porch scene” of the Neil Perry tour video. Hint: Munch’ems.

CanaDave did another Out Past the Rings, number 131 to be exact, for Euclid C Finder’s double EP cassette release we did way back in 2018. Copies left? Hellllllz no.

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: ROMAN CANDLE = Ridiculous new EP from this Nevada-based band. Kinda Nuvolascura but a bit less techy.

November 01, 2022 by David Norman

The final Works song premiere went up yesterday for “Laura Palmer” ‘Is there a head in there’ which just released on Tomb Tree via 100 12”s. Incredibly groovy, mathy, bass-driven, math/noise/indie rock from Quebec. Click on this text for the full premiere or jam the full LP below and pick up dat 12” baby!

Holly Caught A Contact High tapes go on sale this Friday for EP3 with a wee little surprise, find out after we sell out muhahahahaha. Only 25 copies for Tomb Tree/Zegema Beach and 25 for the band.

We’re doing a new thing for (((((OPENmind/SATURATEDbrain))))) podcast where we’ll upload a short clip of an interesting section from some previous episodes. Listen to this first one about the best Nuvolascura ever. Try not smiling and not wanting to shout, “It’s 10 o’clock!!!” pffft good luck.

Infall released another new song this time by way of lyric/clip music video. Very awesome stuff and the tapes release November 14th on Tomb Tree! Thanks Cvlt Nation! Click on this text for the full premiere!

Out Past the Rings 130 is for the stellar and ill-fated Komusō ‘Luck Will Be On Your Side This Week’ 7”EP. Find out some rarely discussed info and pick up one of our last copies before they’re all gone.

The Fiesta Bizarra cassette EP is out in full! Give it a jam and nab a tape before they all end up in Peru.

King Slender’s cassette EP was the most recent candidate for This Noise Is Ours’ ZBR Roster reviews. There is only a copy or two left of this run /50! Buy below or click on this text for the full review and more links!

KING SLENDER - 'King Slender' cassette
released November 2017

ffo: Wolves, Daniel Striped Tiger and Secret Smoker

Tight as fuck hardcore punk with strong leanings towards emotive hardcore and I guess therefore screamo. Desperate yells, driving drums, rolling bass and intricate guitar riffs envelop all four songs in late 90s emo.

50 smokey metallic tapes with j-card in a resealable plastic bag. 4 songs.

Johnny’s Reco-mmendations: THE SAWTOOTH GRIN = We were lucky enough to distro the ‘Cuddlemonster’ 12” when it came out back in 2020 on vinyl, and yesterday the band released their first new material in about 15 years! It’s uhhhhhh good to say the least.
